"National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day" Event to be held April 29

Caddo Parish residents will have the opportunity to spend time at their local shelter in observance of “National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day”.  The event, hosted by the Caddo Parish Animal Services and Mosquito Control Department (CPAS), will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter, 1500 Monty Street, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71107. The event is free and open to the public.

“We are excited to observe this national day as a local event,” said Chuck Wilson, Caddo Parish Animal Services and Mosquito Control Director.  “This day was created as a way to raise awareness for the many pets that are waiting and needing new homes in shelters. Our local event is aimed at hopefully finding many new homes for our animals right here in Caddo Parish,” said Wilson.

The event, geared to all families and all ages, will feature adoptable dogs and cats available at the shelter and from local animal rescue organizations.  CPAS will offer a special discounted rate for animals adopted directly from the shelter on the day of the event. In addition to adoptions, there will be various exhibits and activities for children, including food, drinks, pet-related activities, jump, houses,  door prizes and the opportunity to explore and learn about the different trucks and equipment that the Department utilizes on a daily basis.  Pet service vendors and educational organizations will also be present to provide information to attendees.
