COMMISSION VOTES TO ERECT PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE AROUND COURTHOUSE MONUMENT
Caddo Parish, LA – The Caddo Parish Commission has voted to erect a protective structure around the Confederate monument located on the grounds of the Caddo Parish Courthouse.
Out of an abundance of caution and safety for Parish citizens and the monument, the Commission voted to erect a box-like structure that will enclose the monument and the fence surrounding it. The decision was approved at the Commission’s regular session meeting om July 14, with an 11-1 vote in favor.
“We can all agree, regardless of the outcome, that the monument needs to be protected until we know where it will be moved,” said Commission President Mario Chavez.
Renderings for the proposed structure are currently being completed, but the structure will be painted and contain the flags of the Parish of Caddo, City of Shreveport, State of Louisiana, and United States flag on each side. The Parish of Caddo will begin work on the structure with anticipated completion by Friday.
