Louis Johnson is the Proud Father of a Son and Daughter – DeMarcus and Heather.  He is the Teacher of his Church’s Men Sunday School Class and is active in Church Ministry.  

Louis Johnson has had a career in Public Service that has spanned more than Thirty Five years.  Louis Johnson worked for 33 years in the Fire Service, beginning as a Firefighter and was promoted up the ranks to the highest level of Chief Officer and Management.  Louis Johnson retired honorably after 33 years in 2015. At the time of his retirement Louis Johnson was the Chief of Training and the Academy Director for the Shreveport Fire and Police Training Academy, and also served 16 years as the Public Information Officer.  As the Academy Director he was responsible for The Academy Budget, all Department Training, including but not limited to Firefighting, EMS and Hazardous Materials Training. As the Chief of Training he was responsible for Department Human Resources, recruiting and hiring. Louis Johnson also served as the Lead Disaster Planner and the Leader of the Fire Department’s Strategic Planning Team. Louis Johnson served as the primary Instructor for the Dept. in the areas of Officer and Chief Officer Training, Leadership, Diversity, Conflict Management and Customer Service.  Louis Johnson is recognized as a respected Leader in the Field of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.  He is a dynamic lecturer and continues to stay busy as a Trainer and Motivational speaker. 

Louis Johnson has a Bachelor’s Degree (Wiley College, Magna Cum Laude) in Business and Organizational Management and an Associate’s Degree in Fire Service Management.  He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland where he graduated in the area of Executive Management and to where he has traveled more than 12 times to either attend class or instruct.  A few of his certifications and achievements are as follows:  30 plus years and Currently certified Nationally Registered Paramedic and Paramedic Instructor, Fire Service Instructor, Certified Fire Officer, Leadership Instructor, Certified Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Certified Life Safety Educator, member and Instructor of the Emergency Management Institute, Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association and Fire Safety Consultant. In his role as Emergency Management Chief Johnson traveled to New Orleans, responded during Hurricanes Katrina 2005 and Hurricane Isaac in 2012, and was the Dept.’s Lead Disaster Planner during Hurricane Ike and Gustav.  One of the many highlights of his career is being a presenter at the International Fire Chiefs conference in Chicago in 2010 and working as a Paramedic on a Medical Team for seven days for the International Olympic Games in Atlanta Georgia in 1996.

After retiring from the Fire Department after 33 years, Louis Johnson realized that he still had a calling and desire to continue to give to his community in the area of Public Service.  In an effort to fulfill this calling he applied for a position in local Government when a seat on the Parish Commission became available. He entered a crowded field and was selected to be Parish Commissioner.  Louis Johnson has moved into an area where he sincerely desires to represent the people of his District as he commits himself to the goal of addressing the needs of his community with Respect and Integrity while seeking ways to add to their quality of Life. Based on his experience and proven skill set after being appointed Louis Johnson was appointed to the Commission’s Economic Development Committee, Appropriations Committee, and Long Range Planning Committee and was appointed as Chairman of the Personnel Policies and Procedures Committee.  Commissioner Johnson is in a position of service doing what he enjoys as he works everyday to be a Blessing and make a Difference… He is not pursuing his pension … he is pursuing his Passion.  Commissioner Louis Johnson believes ALL ABILITY COMES FROM GOD and his core values are… Service, Professionalism, Excellence in his Work and Respect
